I'm sorry to say that the Relume team (the biggest ready-made component library for visual web builders) has done pretty much what I recommended Framer do (only from their product end, which is the UI Kit) in this post: to bring together visual web building and owned UI Kits.

They have now built a web builder based on AI and their unique web component library. Check this out: https://www.relume.ai/publish

I think that @Framer should build its very own component library. Why?

—So they can leverage it against other visual builders / dev and design tools.

—So it helps users build certified quality web pages.

—So people do not have to gamble on Framer UI Kits, with random results (Your Mileage Might Vary) and vendor/developer tie-ins.

—So people do not have to guess on which type and color style generator will be the professional one.

—So people at least have a proven foundation for a serious website without gambling on templates that look very fancy and then choke the user's browser and computer memory or overheat the whole system (that happens when you have an old Mac, for instance).

This has been the smartest move by Relume since they ever started. Framer needs, IMHO:

—Design System management features (basic and friendly, like Figma's, not Token Studio-grade). Handling styles and managing the workspace-level library components is cumbersome or limited, from my very limited experience.

—A Framer UI Kit (with different layers of complexity/detail/branching.

None of those product improvement ideas require that Framer or the user invest more money and time on AI features and tokens. But they would multiply the value and power of both.

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts.
